Kissing Alex is book #6 from the Bodyguard Inc. Series. I haven’t read the other 5 books and I didn’t have any problems understanding, so yes it can be read as a standalone. Although I must say it did leave me wanting to read the other books.
If you are looking for a sweet romance with mild angst this would be a great book. The Scottish setting and the characters were beautifully descriptive. Lewis is what every bodyguard should be, protective, loyal, and very in tune with the person he’s protecting. In fact he was so in tune that he started to notice how beautiful Alex's lips were. Once Lewis got past what he thought the normal Rock star attitude would be Lewis found Alex to be nothing like what he expected. He was kind, sweet, and lovable. I loved the way the story was told from both Alex and Lewis' perspectives, while each of them was trying to figure out where the other persons interest lay, they got more and more invested themselves. Both wanting to think that a causal relationship would be enough but knowing deep down that they both needed more. To sum up this story I would say this is a book with a reluctant bodyguard that unexpectedly found a true love. I gave this heartwarming story 4 stars!
