Let me start off by saying that simply put, this series is fucking amazing. It is the standard that I judge all books I read that fall into the BDSM category...and most have been found lacking.
The Divine Series is what 50 Shades could only hope to be.
This is one of the BEST series in the Erotic/BDSM genre that I have ever read, and believe me, there have been a LOT! Just THINKING about this series gets me all hot and bothered every time!

To Serve is Divine is fifty shades on steroids. Really, if you thought Fifty Shades was any type of BDSM well, I'll classify it like this... FSOG is like elevator muzak while TSID is like heavy metal. That's how far apart they are. I am not nor have I ever tried even the mildest form of D/s, but to say I wouldn't would be a lie. Ms. Hargrave truly has a talent to draw the reader into a story that goes above and beyond. She leads you into and instructs you within the BDSM lifestyle with truly amazing characterization. The dynamic between Jayden and Catherine is awe inspiring. Catherine is a young woman who was introduced to the D/s lifestyle in college. Her first real D/s relationship with Spencer was so emotionally and physically abusive that she no longer trusted herself, and left the lifestyle for a year. Standing outside a "new" to her club, Jayden spies her waiting in line and has her admitted into the club where he slowly brings her back to herself. This is book 1 of 3 and gets into a little bit of Catherine's past, Jaydens desires, Catherine's desires, and a slowly building relationship between the two. It is incredibly HOT n STEAMY, erotic to the nth degree, I can't even fathom how many times the hubs got lucky while I was reading this. Seriously, I couldn't get enough.
It is so far from anything I know about, but so intriguing that even though you don't understand how someone could want to be whipped, flogged, degraded or humiliated you keep reading because your are embedded into the story and lives of Jayden and Catherine. Jayden wants only a submissive, not a "lover" or a relationship. Catherine is looking for someone to dominate her and she is falling hard for Jayden. It becomes more difficult for Catherine (the submissive persona) to separate from Erin (the day to day persona) and not fall in love with Jayden, who I really do think is swoon-worthy. Yes he has a submissive, yes he has another partner when he's at work and needs to let loose, and yes he has his chauffer (some m/m action) but he's not into Micah, nor is he into his secretary, but he is slowly falling for Erin, not just Catherine. TSID earned every one of the 5 stars it received from me and I can't wait to continue the story in A Divine Life.

OMFG, A Divine Life blew TSID away and me along with it. Oh Holy Hot! ADL goes so far beyond anything I have ever read before. There is a lot more extreme action going on, and you just can't stop. Some of Catherine's memories were so totally disturbing that I wanted to cry for her. Ms. Hargraves characterization and use of the written word takes you to another world where everything you've never imagined happens. And while you might be like OH MY GOD and you don't even know if it's in a good way or bad, you're hot and bothered..I don't care if you're technically enjoying the story or not, you just can't help it. You find out just how rotten Spencer was to Catherine and you also wonder just how much Jayden could possibly care for either Catherine or Erin when he gives her the "Big" surprise. Erin actually thinks Jayden is letting her go, giving her to another Dom, so as she is trying to accept that which she believes is her fate, she just lets go. She becomes so much more unihibited, I think she has a hard time believing what she's doing herself. I usually like to include little snippets of the story to make a point or explain why I feel a certain way, but honestly, I don't know if I could find a "tame" enough paragraph, this story is so HOT and messed up. If you're into reading BDSM this is a must read for you. This story is so wonderfully written that I sincerely can not wait to read another by R.E Hargrave... I'm pretty sure that her talent for writing would make the dictionary enjoyable. Patiently awaiting Surreal, and yeah, Ms. Hargrave knows how anxious I am!
