beautifulruggedfront synopsis
Sometimes us silly girls fantasize about things that never come to be. I had expectations after college—expectations to run off with Jake Larson and start our life together in a little Pennsylvania farm town. I had my happiness mapped out inside my head. I didn’t expect to run into a strange, alluring man with a beard and dark hair stacked up on top of his head. I didn’t expect to be attracted to someone so—different. He was everything I didn’t know existed. He could make me feel things I’d never felt before. It didn’t seem possible that we could be together. We both had obligations. The world told us no, but we couldn’t stay away from one another, couldn’t deny that we were drawn together. He was so beautiful—so beautiful rugged. I was going to make him mine.   buynow

Rachel's Review~

This is my first book by Sara V Zook and I was pleasantly surprised!Evanna thinking her love for Jake is true; moves with him to Pennsylvania...but things change once Jake is "home" and Evanna is left hanging more often.
Now, I live in Michigan, not more than 45 mins from the Indiana border so I often see/interact with some Amish folk and while I don't pretend to understand much, I know they have set rules that most of them live by. Rules that govern religion and family as well as their everyday lives. I also understand not all Amish are the same...much like everything else, there are different sects, for lack of a better word, and they have different rules about "outsiders" and what they can and can't do.
So Gideon and Evanna meet while outside the library. Gideon has rules he's supposed to follow, things that have to be done certain ways...While meeting Evanna was fortuitous...it set in motion a waterfall of change not only is their lives, but the lives of many around them.  Gideon is already engaged...and he's not supposed to go outside of the Amish. Evanna is with Jake and even though she knows now how feelings SHOULD be, she still just doesn't feel right..
While the blurb was intriguing, I don't think it does the story justice. There was so much more emotion involved that what I would have thought.  I honestly expected a little racier, a little more suspense and drama, which is what I was looking for in this story originally.  What I got was wholly unexpected, but in a good way!  This was a great read, and I'll make sure to add Ms Zooks books to me TBR.

Rachel's Review~
This is my first book by Alyne Roberts and I don't know that I could have picked a better one.  This is Chicago mob, but not like the mob books you're used to..It's about Atlas Omega, the son of el capo, the boss man of the Chicago mob and Stella, the daughter of one of Chicago's finest, yep her daddy's a cop.  Stella has a brother, Ace, who went to the dark side..Ace is Atlas'  best friend, only Atlas had no clue until it was too late that Ace's dad was a cop.  Stella woke up one night to her mom pleading for their lives, and then Pop! Pop! her parents were gone and her brother was in the wind...she assumed he too was killed.  Stella, the only one left ten months later is moving away from that house and Chicago out to San Francisco to try and reclaim her life.  That one night, clubbing with her bestie Liddy, is the end of life as Stella knows it.
I LOVED Atlas, as I'm sure that was Ms. Roberts intention LOL.
He was strong, take no shit, and Oh So Bad.  He liked his women tied up and helpless, YES PLEASE, and he tried his hardest to stay away from Stella, his best friends little sister, whom he promised to protect from harm, mainly being his family and enemies.
Stella, waking up tied to a bed with no knowledge of where she was or how she got there is freaking...
~When I was a kid, I thought that monsters only lurked in the darkness. It was only at night when evil cam out. As I grew up, I learned that the scary stories had that part very wrong. When the sun rose, the evil was still there. If you turned on the lights, the monsters were still there. They were not afraid of the light or the dark.
Throughout the story you have a lot of back n forth between Stella and Atlas. You sense the attraction between the two and can't wait to see it fulfilled.
~You saved me, I told him.
And you ruined me, he said as he wrestled off his jacket and pants. You destroyed me. Broke down my defends and got inside my walls.
~What am I paying for? I moaned as I felt his skin on  mine again.
Making me fall in love with you, he bit out before pushing into me.
The characters were good, I loved the mythological references, along with Atlas' name...I mean really, doesn't the name just sound strong enough to hold the heavens and the earth on his shoulders?
The sexy was oh so sexy, love the force, the ropes, the adrenalin rush that Stella would feel when surrounded by Atlas.
My only complaint?  I'm a big fan of series stories...and I wish she would have started with Aces story, giving us all the background on the Omega family, weaving her way into Stella and Atlas' story, and then book 3 ending with Ace finding his happiness...Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that this story has a wending and weaving Human Trafficking plot throughout...you get bits and pieces but no true ending..so I'm assuming another story could be coming along?
Since I read the first 75% and didn't want to put the book down, but season's crap and all, I was surrounded by family, commitments of a holiday dinner and shopping, so I HAD to set Atlas aside for a little bit but his story was never far from my mind...even as I walked through the mall...
so 4.5 STELLAR (ha) stars

Excerpt
"Stella," I heard Atlas growl from the end of the hall. Only a few dozen feet of expensive hardwood floor separated us. The sound of his deep and commanding voice pushed one more burst of will through me. I could hear my own cries as I punched the rest of the shards away. The glass digging into my skin didn't register in my mind as I tried to push my body through the thin opening. I was able to fit the upper half of my body through before I felt a hand grab my leg. "You fucking bitch." One of the goons had my leg and yanked me roughly back. "Let go!" I cried and kicked. My bare foot connected with a hard body and I was released. Hearing my name called once more, I used every ounce of strength to pull myself the rest of the way. Glass and wood scraped at my skin, but I didn't stop. I could feel the cool night air on my skin. I could smell the rain that had recently fallen and saw the moon hidden in the clouds in the sky. I was outside! The night was so dark I couldn't see a more than few feet in front of me. I actually couldn't see any light in the distance at all. My heartbeat thumped and my breath came in hard pants as I ran away from the house. I could hear the shouts for me, and Atlas barking commands, but I couldn't look back. It didn't matter that I had no idea where I was going. My bare feet hit the gravel and my body cut through the night air as I sprinted up the gravel drive. I had to keep going. I had to lose him and find help. I just had to keep running. "Stella! Stop!" My heart stopped when I heard Atlas's voice behind me. In a panic, I turned off to the right into the tall grass. I could hear him cursing as he entered the thick brush behind me. The grass and branches slapped my bare skin, stinging me. This would be my only hope to lose him and get away. I kept running, ignoring the pain and shortness of breath until I couldn't hear him any longer. Bent over with my hands on my knees, I struggled to breathe. Every gasp of air burned and my entire body ached. I couldn't see in the darkness, and all I could hear was my own heartbeat pounding. Even the moon had been swallowed by the clouds. Goosebumps trailed over my sweaty skin as I noticed how very lost and screwed I really was. "There's nowhere to go, Stella," his voice surrounded me. "You won't get away." Fuck! Just when I thought I was alone, he had found me. A cry escaped my lips and I tried to run, only to be pulled back. My back hit a hard body behind me at the same time a hand clamped over my mouth. My cries and screams were muffled under the pressure of his hand. Another arm snaked around my chest and fingers wrapped around my throat. "Shh," Atlas whispered in my ear. "That was fucking stupid. So stupid. You're hurt now." I lashed out against him but it was pointless. The hand around my throat tightened in warning. His hold was strong and held me immobile in his arms. I slumped against him in defeat and despair. All the strength and determination leaked out of my body. He found me. I ran and he caught me. I was warned how foolish it would be to run and now I would have to face the consequences. Tears streamed down my face and over his hand as the adrenaline wore off and reality sank in. Everything hurt and it was only Atlas holding me up on my feet. His lips brushed my ear, sending a shiver down my spine. "Don't you dare fucking scream, understand?" I nodded once and his fingers slowly lifted from my mouth and wrapped around my waist. I pulled in a deep breath, feeling the pain in my ribs with the inhale. Atlas tilted my head back while still keeping his grip on my throat. Even though I couldn't see his face, I felt his hard stare on me. Anger was rolling off his body in hot waves, and every muscle pressed to me was rock hard.
