Well, I was super excited to get this book. I saw teasers and excerpts posted by Ellie Masters and I commented on how I couldn't wait!
What a debut novel. First off, the author gives you all sorts of information since she knows there will be haters because there are triggers.
She tells you exactly what to expect and how to interpret, and if you're seriously looking to get into the kink lifestyle how you should go about it.
With that said, let's delve in, shall we?
The characters are great. I love the strong, admit to your mistakes, take no shit, dominant alpha female Kate Summers. She is battered and beaten, but she didn't let it destroy her...every day she rises above it.
That is, until she gets a case that closely emulates her previous trauma. That begins her downward spiral into the place she loves and needs, but is more than frightened to go back to. Enter...Jake Davenport.
Master Jake Davenport that is. He is watching Kate work a scene...and he knows something is off. So once he meets her, he's pretty sure she's submissive as hell, playing as the Mistress of Pain. One thing leads to another and Jack is the ONLY way Kate can get to where she needs to go (in more ways than one) and she must willingly change roles...go back to that submissive person she misses every single day.
This story is fraught with feelings. The suspense, the sex, the murder...
I was first and foremost a murder mystery reader...that is until I came across some dark erotica..well then the ball game changed LOL.
So this hits all my happy spots, yeah...pun intended.
It is a wonderful debut novel from a writer that belongs on your 1click list!
