This was my first read by Xavier Neal. What I found most enjoying was the "dialog with the reader" by both characters, Luca and Alexxa. It was flipping hilarious. The writing was great in and of itself, but the witty banter and the constant sarcasm made this a great read. Not to mention I'm a sports freak myself, so The Gamble was like a fastball across the heart of the plate; easily taken for a ride.
The characters are really SO likeable. I mean really, you may not LIKE what Luca epitomizes but he's just so flippin funny and good at what he does. Alexxa, best friend to Luca and Warren (Luca's roommate) and she fits in just like one of the guys. She's just as funny, just as sarcastic and a great all around match for Luca...until she's more.
Great characters, great writing.
