Whispers and the Roars

by K. Webster
Publication Date: December 6, 2016
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Dark Romance
new-front-only

When my eyes are closed, the monster can’t ever see me. When I sing a song in my head, the monster can’t ever hear me. When I pretend my bedroom is a playground where I play hide and seek, the monster can’t ever find me. The darkness should frighten me. I should worry I’ll find more monsters…monsters scarier than him. But I’m not afraid. It’s safe here. When I’m inside of my head… He. Can’t. Ever. Touch. Me. Warning: Whispers and the Roars is a dark romance. Strong sexual themes and violence, which could trigger emotional distress are found in this story. The abuse written in this story is graphic and not glossed over which could be upsetting to some. Proceed with caution. This story is NOT for everyone.

Whispers and the Roars was, in true K. Webster fashion, fucking amazing.  It's not a typical read, but that's what makes it so memorable. So absorbing, so absolutely fantastic.  It's not a topic we read much of, hell, it's not a topic you hear about, not really.  To most of us, it's so far-fetched, that it's mostly ignored, put far out of our minds, not given a second thought...until now.
K. Webster is the queen of dark; but even though it's touted as a dark romance I find it more hopeful, healthy, healing.
Kady, a beautiful 29 year old hasn't had the best of lives.  Her father killer her mother right in front of her...yet she perseveres.  She plays the piano like nobody's business and gives lessons to kids in the neighborhood.
~when I'm playing the piano I'm able to forget. I'm able to silence those roars. Turn them into whispers. Let the music flood my soul and drown the horrors of my past.
Yeo, boy from down the street, has loved Kady ever since he can remember...Ok, since he moved into the neighborhood at 10.  They've had a mutual love for years...until graduation when Kady pushes him away so he can realize his goals, make something of himself without her pulling him down.  Drowning him in her despair.  She is certifiably depressed, along with other things.
12 years later, Yeo is back, he's a Dr. and he's still in love with Kady.
K. Webster writes such amazing characters and her storylines are always so unique.  She very rarely goes with the popular sub-genre of the times. She seems to write from the heart, and you never know if her characters will be adolescents or adults. Her stories continue to surprise me even when  I should just expect greatness every time I pick up one of her books.
This one, it's beautiful in its devastation.

Love sometimes demands them.
