Dirty isn't your typical "my life was shit until I met you" story. Jack's life was fucked, plain and simple...from the time he was eight until he was 27! Can you imagine promising something and STILL keeping it YEARS later, all the while you are getting used and abused, physically, mentally, emotionally. Oh my, poor Jack. I wanted to cry for him on numerous occasions.
River's father was a "monster". He was a part of the human trafficking/slave trade...and when he died River decided to use all of his money to free sex slaves. She and her best friend Adam pretended to be "monsters" themselves to get close, then they would buy and free the slaves. They ran The Sanctuary, where ex slaves who can't really get back into the swing of what we consider "real life".
River was kind of annoying, and when I'd finally had enough, so did Jack. I really liked the fact that what I found annoying was really all just a part of the story, and turned in to a fairly big part of Jack and River's relationship.
Dirty formerly, Saved by Her, is a dark and emotional read. Michelle Horst does a fabulous job of drawing you in to the dark and gritty read and knowing when to give you that little bit of light. Her writing is phenomenal and leads you just where she wants you to go.
I loved this story the first time around as SAVED BY HER and redone, tweaked, and changed up a bit as DIRTY? it's not only just as good but maybe a little bit better.
