I should have known when I started Behind the Bars by Brittainy C. Cherry that I would need an entire box of tissues sitting next to me. As always her stories evoke such emotion that they bring you to tears, both happy and sad, making the reader more engrossed in every aspect of the story.
Behind the Bars is a story of hope, a story of loss, a story of self discovery and above all else a story of love. Where Jasmine was lonely and searching for the love of her mother, she had hope she would find it when she looked into Elliot's eyes, the boy that everyone made fun of, who was less than popular. The story of Jasmine and Elliot will take you on an emotional roller coaster, one that you will be glad you stepped on in more ways than one, that will give the reader a little hope that in some situations, people can rise above the pain that would otherwise hold them down and show love to others even when they don't receive it in turn.
I loved every character in this story, each unique in their own way but each having a personality trait that I was able to relate to on some level. It amazes me that I was able to relate to even the villain of this story in the end but as only Brittainy Cherry can do, she wove a web of words that wouldn't allow for anything else.
This book was a 4.5 star read for me and I would highly recommend it to others. To see the transformation of both Elliot and Jasmine throughout this story is nothing short of amazing and you MUST read it to see for yourself!
