Not Your Hero by Anna Brooks is a story that will grip at your heart and pull at it through every page that you turn. The strength of both Sam and Courtney in this story, each coming through for many different reasons, was truly inspiring and had me turning each page with anticipation of what would come next for these two.
Sam was burned when he was younger by the love of his life, or so he thought she was, and ever since has kept everyone at arms length, not allowing them to get close to him, both men and women. His new neighbor is gorgeous and how she is with her son makes her even more attractive. But Sam only does one night stands, he doesn't have it in him to give anything more, despite the fact that he would want to with Courtney.
Courtney is a single mother of a beautiful little boy named Ben. Courtney works two jobs to support them with no help from Ben's father who has never wanted to be a part of his life. Courtney is lonely and insanely attracted to her landlord Sam, he makes her feel safe which is something that has been lacking in her life for a long time. But even after a panty dropping kiss, Sam tells her he cannot give her the relationship she wants. He can only give her the great sex he knows that will have together.
When Courtney receives word that the world she has created for Ben and herself is about to come crashing down around them, Sam shows his truly feelings by doing the one thing he never thought he would ever do, he asks his father, whom he hasn't spoken to or seen in almost a decade for help. He loves Courtney despite his resistance to be with her and Sam is determined to protect her with everything and anything, no matter how difficult it is for him to ask for his fathers help.
Once Sam swallows his hatred for his father and asks for his help, will Courtney and Ben be ok? Or is it still too late? Will Sam be able to finally put the past where it belongs and open up his heart to his beautiful tenant and her adorable son? You need to read to find out how the story ends for these two.
